About

I'm Bill, and hwb2 | Creative is the studio I'm building after a decade in the classroom. The work spans three practices — tutoring middle and high school students in math and computer science, coaching educators on how to leverage AI in their classrooms, and building small, useful software (mostly for teaching, sometimes not). It's all the same job, framed three ways: applying what I know about teaching, technology, and the place where they meet.

The path here was tech first, then teaching. I started out in IT consulting at CSC and Xerox, then moved into web development at a small San Diego studio and freelance work after that. I went back to school for a CS degree at UCI (Intelligent Systems) on top of a Psychology and Business BA from UCLA, and then spent the last decade teaching: traditional middle school, founding teacher at a new K–8, and AP Computer Science at a public high school — AP CSA, AP CSP, and Data Structures. The combination is the credential.

Leaving the classroom wasn't about leaving teaching — it was about finding a way to apply all of it more broadly. One classroom serves thirty students at a time. A studio can work with individual students, with the teachers serving hundreds of others, and with the tools that quietly support both. That's what hwb2 | Creative is for. I'm taking on clients across all three practices.
